Succulent Farm.

A few weeks back as I was sitting on the back patio of the Drake's house I asked the question "if your heart was a plant, what plant would it be?"
"Tree," said Chloe. "Rose" said Caleb. And "Cactus" said myself. Chloe gave me one of her Chloe stares, (If you know Chloe, you know what that looks like), and proclaimed that my heart was not a cactus, no. I guess Cactus sorta has a bad connotation. However, after thinking about it Chloe agreed that in some ways, I do had a Cactus heart- I hold on to things and people- like a cactus holds on to water.
I guess my answer was somehow influenced by my new obsession- succulents. Maybe it's because I can pinch their leaves and they won't wilt. Or maybe it's because they're hardy (most of the time). Or maybe it's because you can tear off a leaf and from that leaf a new plant will grow (sort of like a lizard tail). Whatever it is, I love them.
My first succulent was given to me by Julia. The second one I got was given to me by mom, proud, because she had found it on the clearance rack for a dollar. As it turns out, it was on the clearance rack because it was half dead. But it all turned out all right because we loved it and watered it and re-potted it and now it's a healthy green. However, most of the plants I got for free. I'd go to Walmart, find the succulent table in the greenhouse, and scour the floors for leaves that had dropped off. Then I'd take those leaves home and grow more plants. My mom calls me the cactus thief, but really in all honesty, those leaves would have been thrown away. It's actually a very noble act I'm doing, saving all those plants like that. ;)
One day, I was at calloways and saw two full plants uprooted and thrown on the floor. Since it was Calloways, not cheap-o walmart, I asked the man if I could get a discounted price for the plants on the floor. He told me to stick them in my purse. I didn't have a purse, so I left the store with my pockets bulging. However, I really did feel like a thief, so on the way out I ran up to the manager and explained myself to him. He laughed and reminded me to not over-water them.
